This is a leader book market in Yogya called Shopping Center, yes, we called it shopping center or 'shopping' only. They sell books from various type and publisher from Indonesia and worldwide. The most interesting thing here is the 'everyday discount' in all the kiosks! Isn't it great? Don't you wanna to buy?

Mushroom Restaurant

First, I want to say sorry to all my readers and followers for this long time absent, I have problem with my net. Here I want to share some photos that I took in a restaurant called 'Jejamuran' . This restaurant provide all menus about mushroom (mashroom means 'jamur' in Indonesian language), it is located in the north city of Yogya, about 30 km from Yogya's downtown, in a district named Sleman. Here are some photos that I took in the restaurant:

Beringharjo Market

I took this photo in front of Beringharjo market, the biggest traditional market in Yogya. It is located in the south end of Malioboro street, in downtown Yogya city.
This market provides many things, such as fashions, mainly batik fashions, vegies, spices, souvenirs, crafts, flowers and many other things.

Salak Agro tourism Garden

I took my kids to the park in the salak agro tourism, in Turi, Yogya, yesterday. This garden is located in the north of Yogya city, in Sleman regency, maybe it is about 20 or 25 km from Yogya downtown, in the middle between Yogya and Borobudur, the town which is the Borobudur temple located.
In this garden you can pick the fruits directly from the tree and eat it whatever you want, but we do not allowed to bring out the fruits. To enter the garden we charged IDR 3000, - or about US$ 3 cent.
But sorry to say, this garden looks didn't cared well. Its need a better maintained.
But the kids like it so much, especially, because they could picking the salak fruits from the trees -luckily the fruits were very sweet, delicious- it is a new experience for them.

A Trip To A Village

First, I wanna say sorry, this post is not about Yogya. These pictures was taken in Mirit, a village in Kebumen regency, central Java, it is located about 90 km from Yogya. I came to this village with my husband, delivering some goods to a customer, by riding our diesel car. I never visit this village before, delivering some goods to this village is our driver duties, but he leave today, so, I and my husband take his duties and enjoy the trip! Here I snapped some typical things there, the typical home and the local white cows. Most people in this village have these cows. Now, look at the home roof, most of homes there have roof like this one in this photo.

Wedding Dress

I took this photo in Beringharjo market, the biggest traiditional market in Yogya city, it is located on Malioboro street, at the end of this street (on the south). Here you can see some wedding dresses, a modification from javanese traditional wedding dress. This kiosk sell some wedding needs, such as wedding dresses, wedding accessories, shoes, wedding souvenirs, etc.

Fish Pond

Drawing and painting are two of my hobbies, here I create these pictures using PC program (Paint), I don't have water color neither oil color (acrilic paint) today. Using Paint program is really fun, you can change colours easily and fastly.

Becak (Betjak)

I took this photo in a street in front of Ngasem market. Ngasem market is a special poultry market in Yogya. Here I snapped a traditional vehicle called becak (betjak).
This vehicle maybe only exist in Indonesia, it seems this is a modification of a bike, but the driver is in the back. Going around yogya will feel easy and fun with this vehicle for a mid or short distant destination, with affordable price. Don't forget to try this vehicle if you come to Yogya.

Traditional Room Aromatherapy

As I promised before, I'll post a traditional room refreshment (room aromatherapy), this is usually use in a special occasion, in a wedding room, to make the room fragrant. it has very nice scent.
Here is the recipe:
- 4 to 5 rose flowers (medium size), in any color, choose which has strong fragrant (here I use red and white roses)
- 4 to 5 ylang-ylang flowers
- 6 to 7 pandan leaves, cut it in a thin pieces
- 1 rough-skinned citrus(citrus hystrix, kaffir lime), use only the outside green skin, shredded the skin.
To make :
Mixed the rose petals, ylang-ylang petals, cutted pandan leaves and shredded skin of rough-skinned citrus together, and its done.
Put it in anywhere you want to make the room fragrant. Seem so simple? Try it, its really has amazing scent.

This post is about plant again, now is about pandan leaves, fragrant leaves has soft and nice smell, usually used for a mixture of traditional cosmetics, such as traditional hair oil, traditional body scrub, and for making a scented traditional powder, etc. It also can be used as room refreshment, for flavoring in cooking and baking. Waiting for my next posts, I will show you images and recipes for room refreshment and traditional body scrubs from these fragrant plants.

Ylang-ylang

Ylang-ylang (cananga odorata), known as kenanga in Indonesian language. I took this photo when I come to my friend's home, this flower is grown in his front yard. This flower has nice odor, people often use this flower to make the room smell fragrant, by put it in the room together with other sweet scented flowers. Ylang-ylang also used in making of some traditional cosmetics.

I bought a rose plant yesterday, it has a beautiful flower, it has a stripes colour in its petals, dark red and yellowish stripes. The seller said that it is a 'candy rose'.

Batik Painting

I took these pictures from a home batik painting gallery in Yogya, I choose to take some pictures which use some glitter in the painting (we used to call it 'prada' in javanese language). All are hand made, unique. Batik painting is unique, especially the one which is use glitter, one side has a glitter, and the other side, you will find the same bright colour painting without glitter, so you will have two version in one object. Here is the example, look at these two photos below: this is a painting, I took the photos from 2 sides, one side has glitter and the other side without glitter.

All paintings sold at affordable prices, the sale prices are between IDR 30.000,- to IDR 120.000,- (IDR = Indonesian Rupiah) it is about US$ 3 to US$ 12, depending on the size and complexity of the motif design.

Bakpia (a Typical Yogya's Snack)

Bakpia is a typical snack of Yogya, it is such as a pie with a variety of filling, such as green beans, chocolate or cheese. All the filling variety usually has sweet taste. Formerly, all the bakpia filling is used sugary green beans only. In this post I took some photos of some process in making bakpia. All these photos below was taken in Bakpia Pathuk 25's factory in Pathuk, Yogya. If you come to this bakpia's factory, you will be allowed to see all these process too. This bakpia's brand is one of the most delicious bakpia in Yogya.

Taman Sari (Water Castle)

Taman Sari is located about 2 km from Sultan Palace. It was built in the end of XVII century by the first Sultan in Yogya, Sultan Hamengku Buwono I. Built by a Portugese architect. Taman Sari is a compound of bathing pools, canals, rooms and extremely large swimming pool if the canals opened. It was one of the Sultan's rest house. Now, this place has function as one of the most interesting tourist destination place in Yogya.
There are some tunnels, as underground passageways in Taman Sari which connected this area with Sultan Palace, some people said, there is a secret tunnel connected this area with south sea, Indian ocean, which the legend queen, Nyai Roro Kidul (a supernatural queen in Javanese legend, she was trusted as supernatural wife of some Sultans in Yogya) has a palace. But when I and my daughter went to Taman Sari, our guide didn't tell or show us about this secret tunnel. I thought, if there is a secret tunnel, it must be for security reasons, so that Sultan and his family can escape from that place if there is an attack by the enemy happened.
Taman Sari is very interesting place to visit, so don't miss it if you come to Yogya!

Building in the Palace complex, This is a building for Sultan's sons.This building is not used anymore, because Sultan doesn't have son, All of his children are girls.

The building with cream doors is Sultan's house, Sultan and his family live there, we didn't allowed to take a picture more closer to the building. The building in front of sultan's house is his office in palace complex, it still use for office till now.

I travel to some tourist destinations in yogya with my daughter yesterday. although I very often go to yogya, I had not visited these places before, they are :
The Taman Sari (Water Castle), a recreation house for Sultan and his family, but it is now just for tourist destination, Sultan and his family never use it as a rest house again.
Sultan Palace (we used to call it Kraton),The Sultan house, it is still in its real function till now, Sultan Yogya and his family still live there.
DAGADU t-shirt sales center , DAGADU is the most famous t-shirt manufacturer in yogya, many people sell its counterfeit versions along Malioboro street, Yogya.
The Batik Painting, and
Bakpia Pathuk 25 factory. Bakpia is a typical snack from Yogya. You can see the process from beginning to end, till the snack packed and ready to be sold.

Trapped In The Traffic Jam

I took this photo yesterday, on Sunday when I came to Yogya, the traffic was stuck, coz there was a demonstration by the university students in Yogya. I also took the demonstration picture, but what a shame, the light was coming in front of me, so the picture is bad, not clear, and I can't take the best position for taking a photo because I couldn't park my car, the traffic was so crowded.

This woman going around the village everyday with her bicycle to sell vegetables, snacks, spices, a few meat and fish. People like to buy some their needs to many seller like her, so they don't need to go to market every time when they want to buy a few spices or other.

This is my friend's home, Abdel Rashid and his wife, Majda. They sell antique furnitures and home accessories. Almost furnitures in this home are antique, even their table ware, like cups, plates, bowl, vase, pot, ashtray, and so on.

Some Lovely Plants In My Home Garden

I don't have enough time to go out these past few days to take some interesting pictures/moments in yogya or even my small town. I think, its better to upload my lovely plants arround my home garden, I like gardening in my free time, with my husband and children or even alone.

This aloe vera plants are my favorite one, I often make a tasty drink using solid gel in aloe vera leaves, mixed with coconut milk and palm sugar.

The Batik

Batik is a technique of making patterns on the cloth that is traditionally in indonesia, especially in Java and Madurese. This technique is using wax and dye for colouring, the classical batik is usually used natural dyes from plants, but people now prefer to use chemical dyes that can produce more brilliant colors and durable.
In this pictures, I show 5 sample of classic batik which is used natural dye, in a cotton cloth, and these clothes have aged more than 40-50 years.
If you come to Yogyakarta (we used to call it only 'Yogya'), you can find many kind of Batik from different quality and type, in any prices.

Quiet Street

A day before the election, 8 April 2009, the Diponegoro street in Yogya, in front of Kranggan Market, become too quiet, this street is usually much more crowded. Maybe the people worried to go out before the election concerned with their security if there is any riots happen suddenly. But thanks God, nothing happened, only a little demonstration in the street, I couldn't take the picture coz I was in a hurry.
